Nightmare Fuel III by NearRyuzaki90 Nightmare Fuel III by NearRyuzaki90
If y'all can't tell by now, I like Stephen Gammell's artwork. And this one, in my humble opinion, is one of his creepier illustrations. When I bought this, I joked with the cashier about these being classified as kids' books. You let the horror of this classification sink in.

It's from the third book, the story "Oh, Susannah!" And while it's all kinds of creepy by itself, it gets further points for not being at all related to the actual story.

For the full image, by the way, since motivationals crop:

i remember some stories, what was oh Susannah about?

It was about a student who heard humming while trying to fall asleep, keeps saying "I'm trying to sleep" to whom she thinks is her roommate, then opens the bed to find that her friend has been beheaded - so who's been humming?

PS scuse the late reply - I'm currently in Japan.

Actually the artwork IS somewhat related to an older version of the story, where the killer is actually still in the room, wistling, holding the roommates head while rocking in a rocking chair. It's still oblique, but not many people really care. All they care is that the art makes you shat bricks.

Interesting, not that I don't believe you but where did you read that?

A comment in a post about the artwork change. [link]

I also googled Oh! Susannah Scary story and came across this [link] that gave avariation where the roommate's body was in the rocking chair and her head on the wall. There is a strange looking head and a person in a rocking chair in the illustration, though it IS a very surrealistically done piece in comparison to the other story illustrations, but there is a bit of significance to at least the original folk tale, if not the version in the book.
